Rob Mullen
While a biology student, my lab drawings led to NYC and a freelance art career. I now combine both biology and painting as a wildlife artist. A Signature member of the Society of Animal Artists in NYC and of the Worldwide Nature Artists' Group in Vancouver BC, I have been juried into and won awards in many shows and competitions throughout the US, and even Entebbe, Netherlands.
In 2001, sponsored by Mad River Canoe Co., I combined art and canoeing on a 300-mile painting expedition to the Arctic Ocean. Alone on the remote Missinaibi River, the idea of an association of artists working together in group shows to publicize the plight of the northern wilderness was born.
With my wilderness experience, and art and science background, I recruited a world-class crew of artists, academics and adventurers for subsequent expeditions and incorporated the Wilderness River Expedition Art Foundation in 2005. The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC will exhibit the expedition art in "Visions of the Boreal Forest" in 2008 as the start of a US and Canadian tour. A preview will open at the Wildling Art Museum in the summer of 2007.
