McGuffins gear up to spotlight Superior issues during adventure; Adventurers lead journey along lake's northwest shore

The Goulais River husband-wife wilderness adventurists will begin paddling through familiar waters this weekend.

A year ago, Gary and Joanie McGuffin, acclaimed authors and photojournalists, were among the expedition leaders of an 18-day journey down the remote George River, which winds through northern Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Celebrity Saultbies are Smithsonian bound

Gary and Joanie McGuffin are bound for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Photographs by Goulais River's best-known adventurers last fall on the George River in northeastern Quebec will become part of a Visions of the Boreal Forest Exhibition that will open at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in 2008.

Wilderness River participants to set out on Lake Superior Day

Artists and paddlers are again preparing to set out on a journey of art and adventure as they gather their gear for a trip along the north shore of Lake Superior. The 18-day trip will combine art an adventure through the boreal forest and inspire works that will spark and encourage conservation.
