Great Boreal River Adventure
A Setting to Inspire Great Canadian Art

On July 15, 2007, Joanie and Gary McGuffin, along with Rob Mullen, will set out with the next group of artists experiencing and capturing the beauty of Lake Superior. The 6-member international crew includes project leader and paddler/artist Rob Mullen, expedition paddlers, conservationists, and photojournalists Gary and Joanie McGuffin; Quebec wildlife artist Patricia Peppin; California woodcut print artist Andrea Rich; and Steve Bruno, Coordinator Strategic Partnerships of the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership.

The journey will add to the Visions of the Boreal Forest Exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History scheduled for 2008. Plans are underway for a tour that would include Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Minneapolis, Denver, San Francisco and New York.

Work from the last trip on the George River is currently on display at the Wildling Art Museum in Los Olivos, Calif. Later, Denver's Wilderness Experience Art Museum, the largest wildlife gallery in the United States, will host the exhibit. Work from the Superior trip will be included in future exhibits in galleries and in travelling exhibits.

Wilderness River participants to set out on Lake Superior Day

Artists and paddlers are again preparing to set out on a journey of art and adventure as they gather their gear for a trip along the north shore of Lake Superior. The 18-day trip will combine art an adventure through the boreal forest and inspire works that will spark and encourage conservation.

Wilderness River Artists prepare for Smithsonian exhibit

Photographs taken and artwork inspired by the journey down the George River last fall are being prepared to become part of a the Visions of the Boreal Forest Exhibition that will open at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in 2008.
